The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) Course at Florida Training Academy is a 40-hour training program created to prepare experienced Florida Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to safely assist with medication administration for residents in nursing centers.
This course was created and led by Eunice Mathis, MSN-Ed, RN and is designed to meet Florida state requirements for QMA training, including Florida Statutes 400.211(5) and 464.2035, as well as applicable rules of the Florida Board of Nursing.
The program combines clear instruction, hands-on learning, and nurse-led guidance to help CNAs understand their role, responsibilities, and limits when assisting with medications under licensed nurse supervision.
Course Format & Schedule
This is a 40-hour blended course made up of online learning and in-person training. Both portions are required to complete the program.
26 hours of online coursework
Students complete self-paced online modules covering medication safety, Florida laws, documentation, and essential medication knowledge. Practice tests are included to support learning and build confidence.14 hours of in-person training (2 days)
Students attend two full days of hands-on training with experienced nurses. This portion focuses on skills practice, real-world scenarios, and competency validation.
Classes begin February 2026.

Eligibility Requirements
To enroll in this course and earn 30 CEUs, students must:
Hold an active Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license
Have at least one (1) year of CNA experience
Meet Florida requirements for medication delegation under licensed nurse supervision
What Students Will Learn
Students will learn about Florida laws and rules related to medication administration in nursing centers, infection control and safety practices, basic anatomy and physiology, approved routes of medication administration, accurate documentation and record keeping, controlled substances awareness, and safe medication administration with a strong focus on error prevention and resident safety.
Course Materials Included
This course includes clinical competency checklists, skills validation tools, chapter post-tests with answer keys, student handouts for review and study, and a certificate of completion upon successful course completion. The Medication Aide Study Guide is included with enrollment.
Instruction & Quality Standards
All training is designed to follow Florida regulations. Instruction and competency validation align with Florida Administrative Code Rule 64B9-15, ensuring that instruction and evaluations meet state expectations for medication delegation and patient safety. In-person skills training and validation are conducted by experienced nurses.
