Pediatric CPR and First Aid for childcare professionals and foster parents
Florida Department of Children and Families requirements call for regulated childcare programs to maintain the required number of personnel with current CPR certification and first-aid training while children are in care. For certain childcare-home roles, DCF specifically requires an active pediatric CPR and First Aid certificate and an on-site, instructor-based CPR skills assessment.
This HSI Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED course includes instructor-guided, hands-on skills practice and is designed for the childcare professionals and caregivers covered by those requirements.

Pediatric CPR or BLS—which class do you need?
Choose Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid if…
You are responsible for children in a daycare, school, foster home, camp, sports, babysitting or family setting.
- You are not taking the course for a clinical healthcare-provider role.
- You need child and infant CPR plus First Aid.
- Your employer or agency accepts an HSI course card.
Choose BLS if…
You are a nurse, CNA, EMT, dental professional, medical student or other healthcare provider who needs a professional-rescuer credential.
- Your school or employer specifically says “BLS Provider.”
- You need team-based resuscitation skills for a clinical environment.
- Your paperwork specifically requires an AHA BLS card.
HSI and AHA are different certifying organizations. Both offer evidence-based CPR training, but the cards are not interchangeable when an employer or agency names a specific provider. Confirm the required provider before paying.

Is this the CPR and First Aid class required by Florida DCF?
This course covers pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid and includes instructor-guided, hands-on skills assessment—the type of training required for certain DCF-regulated childcare roles. Because requirements can vary by program and role, confirm that your employer or licensing office accepts HSI and your selected course format before registering.
Can foster parents take this class?
Yes. Current and prospective foster parents are welcome. Many foster-care or child-placing agencies require CPR and First Aid training. Ask your licensing specialist or agency which certification provider, age groups and format it requires, then compare that request with the registration listing.
Who else should take Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid?
The class is appropriate for daycare staff, preschool teachers, school personnel, coaches, camp counselors, youth leaders, babysitters, nannies, parents, grandparents and other caregivers responsible for infants or children.
Does the course include both child and infant CPR?
The HSI Pediatric program is designed around emergencies involving children and infants. Review the specific registration listing or contact us to confirm every age group and module included in your selected class option.
Can I complete my DCF CPR requirement entirely online?
DCF states that CPR training for certain childcare-home roles must include an on-site, instructor-based skills assessment. An online-only course without an observed skills assessment may not satisfy that requirement. Choose the appropriate hands-on or blended option and verify it with the organization receiving your card.
How long is the HSI certification valid?
The HSI Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED course-completion card is generally valid for two years after successful completion. Your employer or agency may require additional or more frequent training.
Is Pediatric CPR the same as BLS?
No. Pediatric CPR and First Aid is generally for childcare professionals and community caregivers. BLS is intended for healthcare providers and professional rescuers and includes clinical, team-based resuscitation skills.
Is HSI the same as the American Heart Association?
No. HSI and the American Heart Association are separate training and certification organizations. If your employer, school or agency specifically requires an AHA card, choose the appropriate AHA course instead of HSI.
