Florida Training Academy offers three Medication Technician training options to help caregivers, HHAs, and CNAs build the skills they need for safe medication assistance in Florida. Each course begins with required online modules, with flexible options based on your experience level and employer requirements.

All students will be issued a certificate of completion.

Important Training Information

All three course options require online modules. Students must complete the online portion first before attending any in-person training.

Some employers only require the online Medication Administration course for unlicensed assistive personnel, while others may require additional hands-on training and employer-based skills verification.

6-Hour Med Tech Course

This online medication administration course is a great option for caregivers and unlicensed assistive personnel who need flexible training. Upon successful completion of the online course, students will receive a certificate of completion immediately.

For students or employers who want additional hands-on practice, an optional 1-day in-person skills demonstration and lecture is available for an additional fee.

Students who add the in-person session must complete the online course first. After successfully completing the hands-on training, they will receive an additional certificate of completion for the 6-hour in-person course.

Med Tech Pro

Med Tech Pro includes required online modules plus 2 days of in-person skills training. This course is designed for HHAs and CNAs who want more hands-on learning and classroom instruction.

In-person training includes medication pass demonstrations, vital signs review, and instructor-led lecture. This is the ideal option for students who want to feel more confident performing medication-related duties in real-world settings.

This course is recommended for HHAs and CNAs who have not held a CNA license for more than 1 year.

Best for:

  • HHAs who want more hands-on training
  • CNAs with less than 1 year of experience
  • Students who want practice with med passes and vital signs

Qualified Medication Aide (QMA)

$375

Our Qualified Medication Aide course is the highest medication training level offered for CNAs in the state of Florida. It includes 26 hours of online course modules and a 2-day in-person skills training experience.

In-person training includes medication pass demonstrations, vital signs training, hands-on check-off, and a validation certificate signed by a Registered Nurse.

This course also includes education on insulin and how to safely assist with an insulin pen.

If you have been a Florida CNA for longer than 1 year, this is the course you want.

Best for:

  • Florida CNAs with 1 year or more of experience
  • Students seeking advanced medication aide training
  • CNAs who want RN-validated skills training

Employer Skills Validation

For the lower course tiers, employers may require additional hands-on skills verification after training. Please speak with your nurse supervisor for information about your on-site skills evaluation and validation.

Students enrolled in the 6-Hour Med Tech Course or Med Tech Pro may need their employer to verify their skills and complete additional skills testing at their place of employment, depending on workplace policy.

QMA students complete in-person skills validation during training and receive validation documentation signed by a Registered Nurse at Florida Training Academy.

Board Approval, CEUs & Certificates

Our Medication Administration and Qualified Medication Aide courses are approved by the Florida Board of Nursing for Certified Nursing Assistants.

In-service hours (CEUs) will be provided to Florida Certified Nursing Assistants.

All students who successfully complete their training will be issued a certificate of completion indicating the number of hours completed.

Do all courses require online training first?

Do I have to attend the in-person portion?

Not always. Some employers only require the 6-hour online Medication Administration course for unlicensed assistive personnel. Others may want hands-on training or workplace skills verification. When in doubt, always choose the option that provides hands-on training.

What certificate will I receive?

All students receive a certificate of completion after successfully finishing their course. Students who complete the optional 1-day in-person session for the 6-Hour Med Tech course will receive an additional certificate for the in-person training.

Who should take Med Tech Pro?

Med Tech Pro is ideal for HHAs and CNAs who want more hands-on learning, especially those who have not held a CNA license for more than 1 year.

Who should take the QMA course?

The Qualified Medication Aide course is ONLY for Florida CNAs who have held their CNA license for longer than 1 year and want advanced medication aide training.If you are a Home Health Aide or have not been a Nursing Assistant for over a year, please select one of the other course options.

Does the QMA course include insulin training?

Yes. The QMA course includes teaching on insulin and how to assist with an insulin pen.
